Letterkenny to Gweedore Route

From Letterkenny you ride east on quiet roads to the famous Glenveagh National Park before climbing the shoulder of Muckish for great views of the area. You take in the beautiful Fanad Peninsula (although you can shorten the trip by skipping this part if you need to) before turning south to reach the Gaeltacht in Gweedore – one of the most popular spots in Donegal. Towards the end of the ride Bloody Foreland offers a beautiful coastal ride.

Letterkenny is easy to get out of and very quickly you are in the famous Donegal countryside.

Parts of this route are on main roads (there are no reasonable alternatives) and would be recommended only for experienced cyclists. Nevertheless, traffic levels are variable and can be expected to be heavier on weekends and bank holidays and when there is sunny weather – it is a popular tourist region.

Combine this route with the Gweedore to Letterkenny Cycle for an exhilirating and adaptable two-day trip showcasing one of the most beautiful parts of Donegal.
